Clean Water Access

This committee centers around the issue of water security—people’s access to enough clean and drinkable water, worldwide. Accessible freshwater represents less than 0.03% of the world’s water resources, and that minuscule amount is not distributed equally across the globe. Although countries like Canada and Colombia manage a water surplus, other countries are left to suffer through continual droughts and water insecurity.

Nowadays, more than 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, affecting economic development and quality of life. As a result, so-called ‘water wars,’ conflicts pursued to control water resources, are becoming ever-present in the modern world. The fight for control over vital rivers, such as the Nile, Euphrates, and Mekong, heightens tensions across countries with access to rivers and seas. This committee serves to develop solutions to address water insecurity around the world while aiming to prevent further conflict.
